Written by Anthony Devine CMgr FCMI Tuesday 12 November 2024
Keeping emotions in check and making effective decisions under pressure are critical skills – which is one of several reasons why West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting its people to become Chartered Managers.
The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is the fourth-largest metropolitan service in England, serving more than two million people across 800 square miles. With 40 fire stations, we operate 24/7, responding to emergencies including fires, floods, chemical spills and accidents.

Committed to “making West Yorkshire safer”, WYFRS collaborates with local authorities and emergency services, with a focus on community wellbeing and supporting the most vulnerable.

At WYFRS, we are committed to evolving our approach to meet current and future challenges. This means putting the right resources in the right place at the right time and maintaining a highly skilled team.

Offering our people the chance to achieve Chartered Manager status demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement, professional growth and lifelong learning – principles that form the foundation of our organisational culture, one where every individual’s development is valued and supported.

Our journey to Chartered

We believe that investing in our teams’ growth not only enhances their individual skills, but also builds the collective strength, agility, and resilience of the organisation.

At WYFRS, leaders enjoy multiple opportunities for personal and professional development. They are encouraged to undertake structured leadership and management training at various levels, culminating in recognised qualifications at Levels 3, 5 or 7, each aligned with the National Fire Chiefs Council Leadership Framework.
