“The job market is very hard right now,” says Jail Anaur Chipantiza Guashpa, a second-year business management student at the University of Greenwich. “It’s very important to have an institution of CMI’s quality on your CV.”

Jail had a pretty decent CV to start with. Prior to starting his business management degree course, which is Dual Accredited by CMI, he worked in the hospitality trade in his hometown of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. His family run hotels and restaurants, and he began his working life as a translator, helping to ensure smooth communication between staff and visitors. He then became a receptionist, and finally an assistant manager (all while finishing high school with the best grades of his cohort). He’s still only 19.

These roles gave him enviable early experience in tasks like managing people and working out budgets, but when he began investigating options to study abroad, he was drawn to learning broader business skills such as critical analysis and strategic planning.

After completing a foundation year in Business at EF Language Centres in Oxford in 2023, he enrolled on Greenwich’s business management course the following January.

Potential to grow

“I looked at a lot of options, but I was very surprised when I saw the Dual Accredited degree,” says Jail. “I quickly learned about CMI’s reputation, and the modules sounded really interesting. These were all skills I wanted to take home and apply to the family business.”

Since joining the course, he’s been particularly struck by its mentorship programme, through which he managed to make his CV even stronger.
