Pride, commitment, dedication: what Chartered status means to you
Written by Dave Waller Tuesday 18 March 2025
Chartered Week is a national celebration of chartered status across every professional discipline – from management to engineering. This year, we were heartened to see such a positive response to Chartered Week from CMI members, who weren’t shy in shouting about the value they enjoy from being Chartered Managers.
Below are some of our highlights from the CMI community, who shared on LinkedIn how achieving Chartered status has benefitted them.
A sense of perspective
“Among my all-time best experiences,” is how Richard Barbour CMgr FCMI, a self-employed coach, described becoming a Chartered Fellow. Richard highlighted the reflective nature of the process, and how compiling the necessary evidence drove him to reflect on his studies, development and – most of all – his impact.
“Becoming a Chartered Fellow made me realise that I had indeed made some ripples in the universe and done other things that I should have been proud of,” he wrote. “Putting the evidence together augmented that feeling of pride.”
Learning and development
Ongoing learning was a recurring theme. Lorraine Halford CMgr MCMI, interim project management consultant for organisational development at UK Youth, wrote how she still goes back to use CMI’s resources “time and time again”, even several years after becoming Chartered. She added that she’d “been to some brilliant events, especially the CMI Women Conference last year”.
Gemma Fletcher CMgr MCMI, head of communications, business and planning at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, flagged how her Chartered status “demonstrates my commitment to high standards and continuous growth”. While Steven Platts CMgr FCMI, chief HSE officer at Descon, wrote: “Becoming Chartered isn’t just a title, it’s a commitment to excellence. It was a great experience, one that has pushed me to continuously grow as a leader.”

The power of post-nominals
Plenty of people chose to focus on what Chartered status communicates to others.
Valerio de Rossi CMgr FCMI, director of marine at Borr Drilling, wrote that: “Professional accreditation is not just a title; it stands for a commitment to upholding the highest standards of expertise, leadership and ethical practice.”
