Akshaya Thanasegaran, CMI International Student of the Year 2024

As the eldest daughter in her family, Akshaya Thanasegaran grew up with plenty of responsibilities. With an eye on her future prospects, and inspired by her cousin, she decided to complete an accountancy qualification, so she enrolled on the Diploma of Accountancy at IPK College Penang, Malaysia.

She has now been named CMI’s International Student of the Year 2024.

Despite grappling with self-doubt during her studies, Akshaya has taken on leadership roles in several subjects and has proactively assisted peers. During the business management module, for example, Akshaya led her team in developing a comprehensive business plan, which received praise from industry professionals during the annual college showcase. 

“Akshaya’s strong interpersonal and communication skills foster collaboration and trust among team members, thereby enhancing overall team performance and aligning seamlessly with CMI’s core values,” said her tutors. 

Akshaya has positioned herself as a role model, willing to take on responsibility. She has actively pursued opportunities to enhance her communication, social and leadership skills. These include a raft of extracurricular activities.
