Q: I want to make sure I impress in my new job, move up the career ladder and become a well-rounded leader. Any advice?

Patrick Macdonald

Patrick Macdonald CMgr CCMI, chair of Moneypenny and Arcus FM and director of NatureSpace Partnership, answers:

The first thing is to be reliable, to do what you say you’ll do, to do what you agreed with your boss. And we all have a boss. (Except perhaps the chief executive, [though they still have] investors.) Be reliable, deliver, do what you’ve said you’ll do. Do what you ought to do and go beyond. How can you find ways to go beyond what you should do? That would be my first piece of advice.
