🌟 Meet our Chartered Manager of the Week: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amjad Shamim, PhD, CMgr FCMI, CPM 🌟

As an academic, Amjad was often considered to be a theorist, so he picked up on CMI as a way to build his practical knowledge. “That was a big gap for me: how to have an impact on the industry so that people feel what we do is not theoretical, but rather practical and of value to our industry,” he says.

He became a Chartered Manager in March 2024, which helped him to create that impact, he adds. “In a way, it’s proof that I have knowledge about practice in addition to being a theorist.”

Amjad specialises in marketing in his role as associate professor of marketing at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He also works as a programme manager for the MBA in energy management and as a trainer on value co-creation, social intelligence and design thinking at the Centre for Advanced and Professional Education.

He’s found the number of training sessions he has delivered has increased year-on-year as more people have recognised the impact such training can have on industry.

“Chartered Manager status is more than just a title; it demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and making a tangible impact,” he says. “I encourage professionals across Malaysia to embrace this opportunity and elevate their careers.”
