Dr Hiba Khan CMgr FCMI, CMI Apprentice of the Year 2024

Through her various roles, which included seats on higher education boards, Dr Hiba Khan CMgr FCMI noticed gaps in healthcare management practices that needed addressing through targeted management training. This desire to improve leadership in the healthcare sector led Hiba to build on her own skills through a management apprenticeship. Her decision was also motivated by her ambition to lead diverse teams.

Hiba, who has been named CMI’s Apprentice of the Year 2024, is an NHS obstetrics and gynaecology doctor, and chief revenue officer at healthcare training provider Medics.Academy.

“To win the Apprentice of the Year award would be an incredible honour, both personally and professionally,” said Hiba on being shortlisted. “The CMI Awards of Excellence celebrate individual and organisational commitment to consistently aspirational work, a positive ethos and outcomes.”

She started the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship, which is accredited by CMI, at the University of Exeter in April 2022. She completed the End Point Assessment (EPA) in June 2024, achieving a distinction in her EPA portfolio and presentation. 

At the time, she was directly managing a team of three. Now, her team has expanded to 15 people.

Refining her approach

Hiba is tasked with identifying and leveraging new business opportunities to drive growth and revenue for Medics.Academy, developing and implementing innovative approaches to expand the organisation's reach and influence. The Senior Leader Apprenticeship helped Hiba refine her approach to leading diverse teams and optimising operational performance.
