“It’s given me a much more strategic mindset”
Written by Annie Makoff-Clark Thursday 22 August 2024The loss of a parent is painful enough for adults, but for children, who often struggle to understand the hows and whys, parental loss can feel all the more traumatic. So when Augustus Mohan CMgr MCMI’s father died when he was seven, it was a horrendous ordeal.
Looking back 25 years later, having built a successful career in the private patient division of the NHS, Augustus says the tragedy ultimately spurred him on to do well.
Four uncles from his father’s side and six from his mother’s became father figures, who often gave him career advice based on their own experiences.
“My brother and I were extremely motivated to be successful very early on,” says Augustus. “My mother moved us from Sri Lanka to the UK when my father died, so we started again from scratch. But we had plenty of role models in the family to look up to. My uncles and an aunt are at the top of their industries.”
