UK productivity (defined as output per hour worked) has increased by just 6% since mid-2008 – we trail behind both the eurozone and the US.

So the pressure is now on for managers to get their workers to be more productive.

Often, this translates into bosses blindly asking their employees to do more and more, without really thinking about what productivity means and how to measure it. For example, according to research by the London School of Economics, the reason for the productivity growth gap is actually a lack of investment in capital and skills.

Which begs the question: Is there a better way for managers to be boosting productivity?
