The solution requires a different type of leadership – one that unites, transforms and elevates performance. Leadership that creates ‘glue'.
Glue. Sounds intriguing, but what is it?
Here, glue is defined as: “A powerful dynamic of highly engaged talented people serving one another, the organisation and their customers, enabling the organisation to grow and thrive.”
Creating glue requires leaders to act in unusual ways. It is an approach which can feel counter-intuitive: building a sense of belonging through providing greater autonomy; being obsessed with others’ effectiveness, not one’s own; developing random relationships, not strategic alignment; encouraging failure, not fear; and deliberately being unusual, not conforming to the corporate norm.
