The 9 skills and mindsets that future leaders need
Written by Delroy Beverley CMgr CCMI Wednesday 02 February 2022In his award-winning book, Jacob Morgan discusses what he defines as the “Notable Nines”, which are four mindsets and five skills said to be crucial for future leaders. As research, he interviewed successful leaders across the world asking a set of questions to evaluate their leadership styles and concepts about what it means to be a leader. Their answers to his first question – what leadership is, and who is a leader – are central to this book.
According to Morgan, great leaders should have the “ability to engage, empower, and inspire who they work with and lead”. While each person’s leadership style may differ, the above qualities are necessary to gain the confidence of employees and help them possibly become leaders themselves. Motivating others may be challenging, but by using many of the skills and mindsets mentioned in The Future Leader, leaders may foster a great deal of inspired and enthusiastic employees.
