Your help is needed to make a new management-training apprenticeship a reality – please add your voice to CMI’s campaign!

Matt Packer

As many of you would have seen, on 11 March prime minister David Cameron marked National Apprenticeship Week by unveiling a wide-ranging programme of new-style apprenticeships at degree level – crafted in partnership with some of the UK’s leading employers, and covering fields such as aerospace engineering, nuclear power and chartered surveying. All good news… but there was one vital piece missing: an apprenticeship in management and leadership.

CMI has been working alongside a host of major organisations to create proposals for such a course, including Serco, Virgin Media, Sainsbury’s, BBC, the Civil Service, Boots – and many others. It is now looking to ensure that the government approves and adopts those proposals, ahead of the fast-approaching General Election.

With that in mind, CMI is seeking YOUR support for the degree-level apprenticeship in management and leadership.

Adding your clout to the process couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is FOLLOW THIS LINK to an online form, fill out who you are and which organisation you represent, and then sign up to a simple declaration: that your organisation is committed to the professional development of managers, and would be interested in taking on personnel under the scheme – thereby allowing those people to soak up valuable and focused, on-the-job training. Submissions are required by Friday 20 March.

As several pieces of CMI’s recent research have shown, bedding management training into the UK staff base as early in people’s careers as possible is vital for enhancing the UK’s economic performance. Your support in helping to create that culture of competence is instrumental – so please take some time to submit the form.

Thank you,

The CMI Team
